Over USB
- Unlock the phone. A locked phone hides its storage. Unlock it and look for a prompt.
- Use a data cable. Some charging cables carry no data. Try the phone's own cable, and another port.
- Skip the hub. Plug straight into the Mac; some hubs and adapter chains drop phones.
- Choose File transfer. In the phone's USB notification, File transfer, not Charging only, for Standard USB.
- Approve the Mac. For Advanced USB, tap Allow on the USB debugging prompt. If you tapped Deny, revoke authorisations in Developer options and reconnect.
- Quit other phone tools. Only one program can hold the phone's USB connection: quit Android File Transfer, OpenMTP, MacDroid or anything else that talks to phones, then click Refresh in PortLine.
In Finder
- Turn the location on. On recent macOS a new Finder location may start switched off. PortLine shows a button to open the right place in System Settings; switch PortLine on there.
- Click Open in Finder in PortLine. It opens the phone's location and shows it in the sidebar.
Over Wi-Fi
- Same network, no isolation. Guest networks, VPNs and client isolation stop discovery.
- Local Network permission. System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › PortLine must be on. After an app update, macOS can take a minute to apply it again.
